Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (with integrated active steering)
VDIM is an advanced integrated control system realized by Toyota. The system acquires the driver's image through the amount of operation for the accelerator, steering wheel and brake. The system then calculates the difference between this image and actual vehicle behavior obtained from sensor information. Control is started before the car begins to slip, thus stabilizing the car's behavior.
Moreover, by integrating an active steering function that optimally controls the degree of turn for the front wheels, the system realizes a high degree of preventive safety and outstanding driving performance. Also, in order to ensure that brakes can fully utilize the VDIM performance, ECB is applied and this single system provides integrated control by combining VSC*1, TRC*2 and ABS.
In cases such as when the steering wheel is turned suddenly in order to turn or to avoid obstacles, the sensor detects when the car is about to slip due to the grip capability of the front and rear tires being exceeded. The system then automatically implements optimal control for the hydraulic pressure of each wheel's brake and for engine/motor output. This ensures vehicle stability.
When the sensor detects idle spinning of the drive wheels when the vehicle starts moving or accelerates on slippery road surfaces, optimal drive force is ensured by implementing control for the hydraulic pressure of the drive wheel's brake and for the engine/motor output. This contributes to improved stability for straight driving and turning when the vehicle starts moving or accelerates.
